Finding Focus!

Having a busy mind filled with an endless list potential books isn't helpful when trying to write a single one! How many projects have you started and not completed?! Is it sitting somewhere in a randomly named file you forgot on your laptop or pc, and left after the first few dozen words?

Well if that has happened to you, then we are on the same page! I have many incomplete stories, and potential novels. There are lots of writing files on my laptop, all needing some attention!.

But learning to complete one book before moving to the next, is a learning process. We all get distracted by our creative mind and imaginings, daily life. We want to write right now but then lose the inspiration somewhere along the way and drop it into a file and move onto the next possible  forthcoming best seller!

Focussing on just one project can be tough sometimes, but persistance can pay off! The best thing is to write what you know. Sometimes it is putting the magic into the book can be the hardest but keep at it.

Imagine your book as a road you are travelling and as you keep going you will be faced with roundabouts, twists and turns! It is the twists, turns and roundabouts you have to try to avoid they are the distractions along the way to your goal!

Find out what works best for you!

Vintage an Advantage!

Rummaging through a bookstore in a market can be most enjoyable. Mountains of books but the one thing that always catches my eye are those books whose bind and covers are coming away, or ones that have that 'well read' look. I love hardbacked books the older the better.

One of my favorite finds recently was that of a book published in 1913. 'Under Five Reigns' by Lady Dorothy Nevill.   I had never heard of the author before, and  had to look her up in the internet.

What made me buy this book, is the little introduction of which there is a copy of her signature. (which you can see here!) The introduction was worded perfectly and very inviting. The fact that her book  was edited by her son was really nice.

What is the book about, you ask? It is about socialising and the social graces of gentry at the time of transitions of  higher powers in England at the turn of the century (1900) from Lady Nevill's social diaries.
It offeres a glimpse into a time now long gone. A charming book!

I recently found another book that I just could not resist buying, even though it is all in French.
'Une Heure De Musique avec Berlioz'  published in 1930 in Paris. This little book of 62 pages is utter charm!  It contains sheets of music by Hector Berlioz 1803 - 1869 and also has a short biography of the Monsieur Berlioz

What made me buy this book, even if I cannot read most of it. you ask? It had a lot of character and I love books that invite you in before you even see what is contained in the book. So it was the cover that did it.

What I find fascinating too, is old libraries. Like those in large country estates where you have a floor to ceiling library filled with hardbacked books from many years or centuries  ago. It has that air about it...the smell of old books..and I am pretty sure a lot of them have never been read! The hardbacks with gold embossed titles. Like lyrics of songs, they sing to you and the echoes of a generation long gone, can be very inviting.

There is so much we can learn from our past authors who were and still are masters in the field.  I had an old saying once ' To look back is to look forward!'

This is why both cover and introductions are hugely important in getting people to read your books. Well thought out and worded can mean so much to the reader.

Magical Marvels!

The marvels of the magical mind...wonders and many many millions of amazing and wonderous ideas have come from such foremost authors and literary giants!

One has to marvel at the dream like big picture they encapsulate in their books. We all have this capacity to bring out the most amazing, fantasy worlds and peoples, in a very realistic and believeable way that we are drawn in and our minds paint this imaginary worlds and we see it much like a movie in the mind.

Imagination is a bigger than space or galaxies, it is limitless! Inspiration is the hardest part but once obtained we can go where only dreams allow..that is why books are such wonderment and have been so for centuries. They allow us to journey without leaving our seat!

Magical Imagination!

The world can make one feel very lost without imagination to plot your next book. It is getting that one little piece that can make all the difference to your book or anything that you feel you would like to achieve..

We find it difficult to return back to before our minds were clogged with so much information, that our imaginations are lost in there somewhere!

To find it again we must not think of the ordinary but rather the extraordinary, our imaginations are as vast and unending as the galaxies in space! So next time you write, step outside the ordinary to become extraordinary! Imagination is your oyster! Imagination is magical!

I am still currently working on my next two books. It is all going slow but steady. Publication of the first book should be soon.  Collaborative work with another author on a book project, will recommence at a later date. The book will be out late this year or early 2013
