So I haven't posted since last year! I haven't written my next book in the last while either! Largely due to my artwork, which had taken precedent over my writing. Just to let you know I have decided to finish my next novel but in an on and off fashion. Some days I will write, some days I will not. I love my writing but I also love my artwork. Trying to marry the two is a struggle!! Sacrifices have to be made I guess!

I have, in my time away from writing, have thought more clearly about what the story is and an important change for one of my characters. The main character has a name problem. I really can't decide what her name is. Soon as I think its right, it starts to wain on me and eventually I don't like the name, it feels so not like her character. She is the only character that I am struggling with name wise.

I have in development another three books. They to me, are all the novels I will write, because they will take a good bit of time to write, I just hope I get to write all of them. (Fingers crossed!)

One book is a series of two or three novels. I have the title for it, the setting and an idea of the story.

The other is a sweeping historical novel. Again, I have the title, the setting and sort of an idea of the story.

The novel I am currently writing may not be released this year but more likely to be Winter 2016.

Been writing character bios and timelines.

Will update again soon. Sorry this one took so long, but better late than never!! :)

I have found myself in a whirlwind these past few months. My creative energies have been thrown into my art work. Although this has been a front runner this past while, I have sort of neglected writing my next book, which I have been adding too here and there, it is still on the agenda to be published quite possibly sometime late next year. Yes, it will take that long unfortunately at the rate I am writing. Well seriously, I am not a book factory and churning them out every few months, nor do I have an editor to help with this. I have no deadlines and no 'I must or else' quotes to push me forward and get typing!

I want to enjoy the journey of this book and not feel that I have to push myself to get it published ahead of everything.. I have learnt from past mistakes not to do this. One step at a time is very important. Immersion in the pages of a book any novelist is writing is a good thing.. Immersing yourself in each scene, character and plot development etc

Will post an update on my novel soon. So far I'm at Chapter Nine and have already passed a critical point in the story!

More soon!
It has been a rapidly busy past while for me. Although I have been somewhat absent from here, writing is a continuing factor for me for my next novel.

At the moment I have brought my novel to NaNoWriMo to help push me further and get this novel hurtling towards the end. The end is never an actuality it is rather a premise for editing, and re editing, grammer and spell checks etc. A methodical microscopic chisel away at words, bleeding them away till I have what will be the final render. 'The piece de la resistance,' the creme de la creme (complete with French accent to boot!) as I happen to call it lol! etc etc and so forth!
Leaving behind a dusty road spewed with letters and some million other sentences that failed to make the grade!

The task in hand is never actually the task you first set out with, its like that vision you have in your mind, never really expresses itself they way you want to on paper or some negative white pixelated screen that glares at you like some menace!

All that said and done, I am hoping that this novel will be publication ready late next year. Fingers crossed. Yes, it is going to take me that long, and yes, I do hope it will be next year...we shall see!

So this is me signing out until the next post here...

Have an inspiring day :)
give you a few snippets as to how things are going with and about my
next book.
The book is a YA Supernatural Fantasy. This will the
first time I have written for YA. It is the book I have always wanted to
write in part as it will contain scenes in it that I have always wanted
to write in a book. Also it has been something on my mind that I cannot
seem to shake off.

The research for it presently,
seems endless. The characters names are mostly set. The lead female name
has been changed a few times, but think I have the right one now. It
just has to 'feel' right, and the same goes for all of the characters.

I
re-read a passage from the book today and really felt good at what I
had written. This book will be the biggest book I have written. I do not
know if it will be in two parts or just the one. There is a lot to these characters and a lot of story to tell, so who knows. I have no idea when this book will be completed but I am rather excited by it and love how the story is unfoldiing.
The title of this blog post is in reference to something other than literature or is it? Today I was thinking back to my college days when I studied dance. For an exam I was to choreograph a one minute dance piece to any choice of music. My theme for this was to reflect on colours, not like rainbows, but the colours of emotions. Using this theme I created a piece with multicoloured ribbons.

Where does this come in where writing is concerned you may ask?

For me, writing is an art form, it speaks as if it were a painting, a dance, or a play! It should have textures, tones, colours, depth, form, light and shade to name a few. Oh and I will add in layers to that mix! Sometimes writing should go beyond the written word, it has to speak not just as itself but say something about the author, say something more than the characters are saying. Creating colours of emotions, seeing the patterns form, the steps taken, the arrival point at the end of a sentence or the final part of the book...the last line.

It is all about seeing more than there actually is written, the forms that come together before the commencement of that characters life. What is it that brought them that point? Lots to think on, lots to wonder about. There can be much more to a book than at first meets the eye or perhaps even thought about!

It is exactly as it is in most creative art forms, the depth, colours, light and layers are just some of what it can encompass.

In other news

Progress on my book is going well, developing new characters and twists! Feeling rather excited about this book. I am in no rush regards it, just enjoying how the story is unfolding!

The FREE eBook covers are all still available. These will all be removed from this blog at the end of June. So if you know someone who might like a cover for their book let them know about this blog.

I fail to see the relevance in publishing any of these, and justifying it by calling it a 'book' or the writer claiming to be a 'published author/writer.'

This appears to occur mostly with Indie 'writers' perhaps just 'testing the waters' or having the 'urge' to publish something. I have seen an influx of these types of books in recent times. Personally I do think it undervalues the Indie writing industry.

One poem or one very short story does not constitute a book. I really think there should be a set minimum word count in order to have a book published by the Indie publishing companies. The word count would be relevant to each genre. It would mean that at least there would be no 'clutter' of these supposed books and would be a good 'tidy up' of the industry, so we can all be taken more seriously by main stream publishers.
I have been considering if book reviews are the way to go with this blog. Will have a think on that.

My next novel is taking shape slowly. I am very happy with how it is turning out, but still have a long way to go with it. I am somewhat reluctant to make pubic any previews or quotes just yet. The book is a totally new territory for me but it has also been the book I have always wanted to write! This book is unlike any of my other published works, in which I always had a running title, had an idea about the cover and knew the full story, just had to write it - but this novel has thrown me completely I don't have any of those things I had when writing my previous books. There is no title, no idea of cover design, no idea of where the story/characters are taking me. I have never under taken as much research nor have I written character bios, even down to dates of birth, before. I am taking my time with this book. I am in no hurry to complete the story nor am I publishing any promos, not until the final edit at least. I have had portions of this book read by a couple of beta readers who told me they loved the story. So not leaving it just at that, I want it to be the best one I have written so far and to surpass all my other books. Well I am hoping that's the case!

Since completing the e-covers., I have gone back to working on my next novel, which is slowly taking shape. Still researching and taking notes. The story is unwinding very gradually. A short preview will of the novel will be available later this year. Publication is either late this year or early 2015. I am not rushing this book nor am I a book mill.

That's the thing I do not understand how some people can churn our books like switching on a conveyor belt and et voila! I still do not know how they do this! In another blog post I mentioned about how some authors just never seem to be off the Internet. They're always there on social networking sites, yet manage to be a book mill at the same time! It is quite possible they may have someone else to write on those sites, who knows!

For my next book I intend to take as long as I need with it. I am taking care of the story as it is one that I have always wanted to write since I was 17 but never got to do so, until now. I have no title for it nor any cover, these will come much later. This is the first time for me this has happened, writing a book without having the title or the cover first!

It will all be worth the wait in the end.
Next blog topic is the 'one poem/one short story 'book'
My next novel is coming along nicely albeit slowly. I am winding my way through mountains of research. This is taking a lot more of my time than I have been with writing. I have been drawing up character bios and information notes regarding the places for the story. I have already discovered loopholes with a few characters, which needs sorting out.

As an author I write randomly. I have no set time to write. But the hours seem to whittle away when I get stuck in with writing my books, yet I see a lot of authors/writers who seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on social network sites. Some never seem to be off it for one moment. I am not sure how they can get any work done at all.

Social media, can be a good marketing tool and also where you can meet fellow authors and like minded people. It's great to get ideas or when inspiration is needed, but to spend such a lengthy time on it, it is a wonder how anything is done.

I only go to social sites when I need too, or when I am taking a break and want to catch up on my fellow authors friends etc. Thing is I do not know how those I have seen on some sites get any writing done! I had seen a picture a few days ago about and I quote 'The Bermuda Triangle for Writers' mentioning 'Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter' and not to get caught up in it.

We all know those social sites are good for marketing, promotion and gaining new connections. Yes see it as a business tool, to build your audience. But having said that, there should be some cut off point. Allocate say whatever time to be there and then leave, get back to your work. So just saying, I don't know how other authors/writers do it.

I came across this article. I know it spells out about bad self promotion, but the topic is about spending too much time on social sites.

http://goodereader.com/blog/commentary/indie-authors-are-spending-too-much-time-on-social-self-promotion

I probably spend something like a half an hour on media sites, sometimes I can get caught in research for my book and other fact finding missions for my books. I am not saying that social media is a bad thing. It is great where you can connect with fellow creatives as being a writer can be such a solo endeavour, connecting with others really brings the community together and that is one of the best things about it. Spending time is good but in the right measurements, to keep you there can in effect be more valuable than spending a lot more time than necessary and losing time that could have been spent to write that book, story or article you have been meaning too.

My next book news update

I have a mass of research to do for my next book. Never have I had quite such a collection of stuff before. Thing is I am enjoying it despite the amount of work I have to undertake for this book. I am thrilled with the story so far. Yet I have no working title, no name for the main character ( thought I had one and realised it was unsuitable ...for the second time! )

I've already reached 20k words but still have way lots more to do. It is nowhere near finished! Hedging bets it might be somewhere later this year or early next year. I promised myself I would not set a publication date for this book. I don't want to rush it.

I love the story but yet have no idea where the story is taking me too. Presently I have at least four companion notebooks for the book filled with notes, ideas, research and other possibilities. This is and has been so far a tougher challenge for myself and I am loving every minute of it. .
I thought of the novel, which I am currently writing, whether it is prudent to add such to the prospective cover.

I know it is up to the author themselves as to whether this is a good or bad thing. I could roll out the pros and cons of putting people or faces on the cover.
Let's say you go ahead and do just that. Blazing across the cover of your book is some hunky/fantasy/meaningful/handsome man or a sexy/beautiful/ethereal lady. What does that say to you? Does it give you an idea of what these people are like? Have you thought for one moment, that in doing so, that this could/maybe hinder prospects of getting your book turned into a movie? Why? Because the character/s have a face already, It is not in the readers 'minds eye'/ imagination... Hollywood likes to play around with characters, to find the 'one' that suits. It can also put the reader off, if he/she doesn't like the look of your character on the cover.

So let's say you don't put an image of your character on the cover. The readers will use their imagination to 'dream up' what your characters look like. They can then relate to the characters and probably feel immersed in the book. Books are like mysteries in side the cover. You can either give away the idea of the character from your mind, or you can leave it the reader, it is up to you.

Just think about it before you decide

Happy writing!
Well, that is as a result of doing too many things or multitasking, something suffers somewhere from lack of attending too and it seems this blog got just that.

Ok that said and out of the way, just some updates on what's happening. Firstly the eagerly awaited Free eBook Covers. I have some completed but have a few more to work on. I am not going to post half when I want to be able to give a wider choice of covers. So I will posted the complete set once I have finished the last one.

On a note about Guest Blogging, pleaae contact me before posting anything in the Guest Column. Posts must be kept to the literary or creative industry. If you would like to write for this blog and gain a wider audience, please message me or leave your email and I will be in touch.

I will be adding to various pages on this blog over the next few days.

Work is still continuing on my next novel. I am loving the story so far. Still have a long ways to go with it. Not even sure of possible publication date yet as I am nowhere near that yet. So will have to keep you in suspense for a while longer!

Free eBooks what's your opinion? Good idea/Bad idea?

I have decided today to discuss something that has been long in my mind to write, albeit I have never got around to writing about it.

Free eBooks!.

Right...

As author of five free ebooks, (which I do for a reason which I will explain later here), I feel so much in the minority. Why do you ask? Well as an author I feel so much down the scale you would not believe. I figured that such a thing is frowned up from the community. I never felt on a par with anyone else who has books that cost a sum to purchase. In fact I will go as far as saying that, I feel like I am out of' the club!'

Yes you heard right. That's how I feel. I know this will largely change when I start to charge for my books but until then its the rocky road of freebies I tread.

I feel at times guilty for giving my work away for free, but I am happy to do so presently. I feel, at time, I have to fight my way through the mass of material out there to get even a squeal from someone about one of my books. Yes, I find it a struggle. I feel alone in this community at the best of times. I write hoping someone somewhere will read what I have written and enjoy it. That is such a thrill for me!

Ok granted I am not the best writer in the world. I do not have a plethora of awards or a single award even. I am not academically taught in wordology/creative writing etc. I learn from being observant, listening, reading etc. I am learning as I go along. For me giving my work away is a way for me to reach readers and authors, to build a base, a platform if you will, to start from and to continually work on it.

Though it is a struggle at the best of times, just to be heard, to be amongst those that have books on Amazon/Kindle etc. They garner more respect and afforded more things that they can do because of just not giving their book away completely free, for whatever length of time. Let me just state this for the record, I am not jealous nor am I looking for a pity party, I am only concerned that free ebooks are not looked at the same way as books you can purchase, and that said authors of those books, whether it is one or many free books they give away, that they deserve to be respected every bit as much and afforded same or similar opportunities as those who get paid for their work, At the end of the day we all in the same slog and slave over our typewriters, note pad and pen, or laptop etc...we all try to carve out some niche in this literary world and want to be remembered by at least some people at the end of the day.

Ok one part you might think about is quality etc. Well I have read some cracking books that are free. I have no doubt that amongst the myriad of books out there that there will be some which sorely need tending too. But may I also add that you will find flaws almost everywhere. People will like, people will dislike, no matter how good or bad you are as a writer. You have to find your own audience, your own, shall we say, group of fans!

In saying all that and in conclusion, I am thankful that I do love what I do and enjoy every minute of it and hope to at some stage, have my books in hard copies and for purchase. I love how this is all progress, how we learn and change etc. Just remember we are one community and one spirit all aiming for that same ideal.

Have fun with your work and never give up even when you are faced with the odds. Keep on.

Right time for me to be outta here. Next post soon including news of goodies, reviews etc coming soon to this little blog :)

This is a short post today as I need to work on for my blog plus writing my next book, reading books for review purposes as well as designing an eBook cover for another author plus sorting out another blog to do with arts n crafts.

Current work is still going slow with my next novel. Whilst I have been writing it, I got inspiration for another novel, so wrote some pieces down with regards to it. I have so many ideas and sudden 'light bulb' moments that I hope I live long enough to write them.

Typically, it is always when I am writing a piece I get inspired to write another story. Writing is no easy task, but it is an enjoyable journey of magical proportions, which is the stuff dreams are made of.

Next blog post next week. My posts on here will be intermittent for the time being until the new look blog is complete.
So with this new year, I have decided to re design my blog. Oh I am not removing any of my old posts just changing the design, some of its contents, how I usually blog and so much more.

I want to make this blog more of interest to you, instead of just making announcements and updates on my latest work in progress, news etc, there will be plenty to whet your appetite.

I had felt for some time this blog needs a revamp so it will be re designed over the next week, giving the new year a good kick start.

Lots on the horizon and lots to look forward too. The past year just gone was such a mash up of good and bad, I am delighted it is now gone. So here's to 2014 for all writers and creatives out there, may it be the best productive and prosperous New Year you have ever had. All the best to you in good health and happiness! Enjoy 2014! Bring it on!
I am delighted about this. I am not just settling for just one Beta review but a few, just to make sure the novel is as it should be and get different perspectives on it.

So far my writing for me has been a learning curve, which I have found immensely enjoyable and very frustrating at the same time. My next book, which is still not titled and yet to be completed, is along with the last couple of books, the most enjoyable fun I have had writing! But given my last two books, caused me so much frustration, I have planned that I will take some short breaks from writing my next book and then go back to it, read it and complete chapters in increments. I will keep re reading my book as I am writing it.

I know it has been a good while since my last book was published but I want to take my time with this one. I have other books in the pipeline, lots of work ahead!

In other news, I have decided to change where I will place 'The Romantic Poets/Writers Column' will be. Instead of here on my blog, I have already created a Facebook Group in which romantic poets and writers can get together and exchange ideas, share work and links to works and advisory and resource group for all. The group will be made public soon. Just working on charters and usual rule applications etc. Further info on this and links to the group will be posted here and on my author page on Facebook. It's all going to fantastic fun and looking forward to meeting you all in the new group!

For now it ia back to writing my next book. I like to write in the quiet of the morning, when everyone is asleep. I like the lull before dawn, best time to write

Keep your eyes peeled more news soon!
Book Reviews, tips and what's new and info in the Indie book scene, as well as publishing houses and so much more.
I would like to emphasise 'Hopefully.'
In the meantime I will be changing how I post on my blog..I will be including more reviews plus news etc from all aspects of the literary world.

In this blog post for today poetry is taking the forefront. I have many particular reasons why I wish to write on this subject. For me, poetry is a definitley a personal thing, but it is also something that other poets and readers can relate to. I have been writing poetry since I was knee high to the ground. The first one I recall writing was called 'Winter' and it won first prize in my school class. Of course I was delighted. In my mind though, it is not about winning awards or such high notes, for me it is all about reaching out to the world, reaching out to writers and readers alike.

Poetry today is very much in the frame of 'modern art' like a Piscasso, trying to decipher its multi facted layers and its true meaning! Art forms in many disciplines have also taken a 'bashing' because of how things have progressed. Only recently ballet has now been labelled a sport, mainly for its competitive nature and gym like dancers and choreography. To dance now you have to be a gymnast, a breakdancer and athlete, in strength, stamina and athleticism, I should also include the ability to defy gravity! It was commented on in an article I read about how ballet is less about art and becoming more sportlike. You can read the article here http://www.newrepublic.com/article/115169/ballet-competitions-turn-art-sport

The reason I brought ballet into this, is because the same thing is happening with poetry. It's less about feelings, emotions and more about static words, hyped and complexities of words. I recently came across a focus group on poetry. They speak of writing peotry with emotions, teaching etc. To quote what they said,

''Poetry is a form of writing used to
express someone's feelings/opinions/a moment. it can rhyme and it can
NOT rhyme. also, there is freeverse, where there is no rhyming scheme
and no set numbers of lines in a verse. for more info read other
definitions. A scramble of words that may or may not make sense to the reader, but always means something to someone.'

You should write poetry how you feel/see it and not have to conform with some standards that set the bar as exclusive or only for those that are educated with degrees in English, History and so forth. Poetry has to be accessable and not always conformist. I write where my emotions lead. I am a Romantic poet, I love Regency and Victorian times. No ,I have not read many poets of those times, but a lot comes from my love of those times.

It is with this I will close this blog for today. I hope what I have written means something to someone.

More updates soon.
So here I am.
What's been happening?! When is your next book going to be published?
At the moment work is going steady albeit slowly on my next book. More info on it soon. My next novel will not be available this year and quite possibly next year either. I am treating it like a piece of art or should I say like cheese, it will mature with time...wait isn't that wine?! Lol!
I want readers to feel immersed in the story, which will be rich in detail, textures, colours, with lots of dialouge and description to satisfy readers who have a penchant for either or both.

Later in November I will begin work on an audio version of my first book, 'The Promise'

So there is lots ahead just moving along at a nice pace.

Aside of my news updates, I just would like to mention that I will be changing a few things about this blog. I know I just seem to talk only about what I am doing, in my updates, well I want to include other news from other indie authors and helpful hints and tips.and lots of other new info and things that maybe of interest to authors. So will be changing the usual format soon.

See you very soon for the next blog post.
