Romantic Poet vs The Modernist Poet

What makes/inspires the way you write?

I have had this question asked of me a few times  regarding my poetry. So here is my response.

I am influenced by times past mostly. I love 17th 18th and 19th century style of writing and not just with poetry. I am not a modernist poet, doubtless I will ever write in a form expressing my annoyance of lengthy queues in a supermarket or about cigarettes a girl smokes.  I have read other indie authors works in modernist compositions and such. It has never really crossed my mind to even put pen to paper in such a fashion and I cannot bring myself to do that, as that would be against myself as a writer and the way I want to write. The one that flows from the pen.  It would seem that some modernists cannot grasp the romantic penmanship of those who wish to write in the craft/style of olde.. I do not know how many of us are out there. I would not like to think I was the only one who wrote in this style. If you are a romantic poet please contact me on here or if you know of any society that is for 'living romantic poets please contact me.

My poetry comes from an emotional base, as always, but I like to play with words and see what comes up. I am a dreamer, a romantic dreamer. If my poetry is enjoyed by some people than I am happy with that.

Just because we live in the 21st century does not mean that we cannot revisit or write in forms of times gone by. It is an art that need not be resigned to history. I see no reason why it should be kept there and only those who wrote in that style are from just that era and all passed on.. A lost art form in the sense! It is not the reason why I write like I do with my poetry, it is because it is something I feel an affinity too, something that IS me and something that lends a quietness in the soul and stillness in the air. It is where I can close my eyes, and feel like I am sitting by a window, listening to the sound of horses hooves hit the cobbled street, hear the cries of the
merchants selling their wares, a clock ticking in the room....

Long live the romantic style of writing! Long live the Romantics!
